Drug precursor

Drug precursors are chemicals that are primarily used for the legitimate production of a wide range of products, like pharmaceuticals, perfumes, plastics, cosmetics etc. However, they can also be misused for the illicit manufacture of drugs. Due to this, controlling of the legal trade in drug precursors is a key component in the fight against narcotic drugs.

Dual-use product

The trade in dual-use items – goods, software and technology that can be used for both civilian and military applications and/or can contribute to the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) – is subject to controls to prevent the risks that these items may pose for international security. The controls derive from international obligations (in particular UN Security Council Resolution 1540, the Chemical Weapons Convention and the Biological Weapons Convention) and are in line with commitments agreed upon in multilateral export control regimes.
The EU therefore controls the export, transit and brokering of dual-use items as a key instrument contributing to international peace and security.

CLP

CLP stands for Classification, Labelling and Packaging. The CLP Regulation entered into force in January 2009, and the method of classifying and labelling chemicals it introduced is based on the United Nations' Globally Harmonised System (GHS).

REACh

The ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) is a regulatory agency of the European Union that works for the safe use of chemicals. REACH is the regulation adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, while enhancing the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry. It entered into force on June 1st 2007.

ITW Reagents fully supports the REACH objectives and is committed to meet legal obligations. Our REACH team has adopted a procedure for recording and reporting all substances affected in our plants of Darmstadt (Germany) and Castellar del Vallès (Barcelona, Spain).

  • On May 31st 2013, the registration phase was completed for chemicals manufactured within or imported into the EU in quantities larger than 100 t/a.
  • On May 31st 2018, the registration phase was completed for chemicals manufactured within or imported into the EU in quantities larger than 1 t/a.

A registration number is assigned to each substance registered by the ECHA and this number will be provided to our customers with the Safety data sheet as soon as available.

For every registration, we review any special applications of the substances in close cooperation with our customers. We are committed to maintain your steady supply of materials and we will keep you up-to-date on all developments.
